Mission Uplift Indonesia
This ministry was commenced to help young women who through many different circumstances found themselves pregnant and unmarried. To help these young women, a safe place was set up for them to be cared for during their pregnancy and the birth of their child. Some of the mums are as young as 14 years old. Some of the mums have been prostitutes or raped or left by their husbands to fend for themselves. Regardless of their situation, God loves them with an unconditional love and the foundation sees the need to express that love in practical ways. Since that time many babies have been born into the program. Some have been fortunate enough to be adopted, a small number have been able to return to the family of the girls, while the rest are cared for by a foundation.
The mums stay at the centre for 40 days following the birth of their child. This gives time for counselling, for them to think about adoption, or perhaps keeping the child and also to enable them to make a decision in a less stressed state.
What happens to the babies? An orphanage has been set up along side this program to provide for the children who have been left in our care. A fully functional kindergarten is now operating at this site.
Mission Uplift also provides housing and education for Refugee children.
In the latter half of 1999 Mission Uplift was approached to take 12 young women from the island of Ambon and care for them at our property in Solo, a home called Wisma Cloe. As refugees they have seen and experienced the horrors of war. Some have seen their parents and loved ones killed before their eyes. Others have been raped and others have no idea where there families are, or if they are still alive.
In mid July 2001 we received a new group of refugees, this time both boys and girls. There are 41 of these young people, ranging in ages from 10 to 18 years. Most of them are from Buruh Island. This island is not far from Ambon.
Following the tsunami flood on Boxing Day 2004, we have received a number of children into the program who are now orphaned or whose parents do not have any means to provide for them.
This work is totally funded by the generosity of people who choose to donate gifts or to financially sponsor a child.
